Description: The Centre has told the Supreme Court that it 'cannot prevent the Police from registering cases under sedition for cognizable offences.' The Centre also added that an SP rank officer might be called upon to monitor the registering of FIRs and judge whether sedition law is applicable or not. The apex court had asked the Centre to file detailed replies about possible halting the imposition of sedition law until the Centre re-examines it.
